System RequirementsThe tool has been developed using Java, but with the windows platform in mind. It uses Java technology to allow for easier transportability between operating system versions. The system is known to work on Windows versions 98, 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP. This version has not been tested under Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X. To run the database you need Microsoft Access 2000 installed on the machine that acts as host to TRIST. The database can be implemented under a different platform if required. This is covered in more depth later on in the manual. The TRIST Jar requires a Java run-time environment to be installed on your computer. If you require one of these, they are available for free download from www.java.sun.com. At time of press, the current version was 1.4.1. The information for how these are installed is also available from the Java Sun web-site. To host the web interface you require a suitable hosting application. Windows comes with a hosting application which hosts pages from your computer across an entire network. Alternatively, the database and relevant components can be integrated and uploaded to an outside web-server should you have access to one. The windows application is called IIS or Internet Information Services. It can be installed from the ‘Additional Components’ section on your operating system CD. Search your help for ‘IIS installation’ to get step by step instructions.
